Main Camp

Nestling on a hillside above the Ewaso Narok River, Laikipia Wilderness Main Camp enjoys a unique, more adventurous, relaxed safari experience where people prefer to stay longer and enjoy this family-owned camp.

The rooms are carefully sited to invite both couples who seek a private, secluded stay and young families. Adjoined tents with a shared bathroom and veranda enable families to keep an eye on little ones, yet soak up the wilderness experience.

Six tented rooms complement central dining with indoor and outdoor living areas giving snug warmth and views of the stunning Laikipia Landscape. Plentiful books and board games enable reference and relaxation.

Understated luxury; each bedroom and ensuite bathroom is individually designed using local materials, sustainable soaps and body wash. Cool, private verandas invite peace and relaxation while you enjoy the vista and the wildlife.

Highlights

Flexibility

The days unfold however you choose. Set off by vehicle, or on foot to explore one of Africa's wildest corners - every outing shaped around your pace, your interests, and your sense of adventure, for explorers of every age.

360-degree view

On top of a rock above camp, a swinging bench offers a 360-degree view of the Laikipia landscape with the impressive skyline of Mount Kenya on clear days.

Family Friendly

Adjoined tents with a shared bathroom and veranda enable families to keep an eye on little ones.

  • Family Tents

We have a total of four family tents which are a double room, with interconnecting twin for smaller children. One of our family tents is extra large and designed for families with up to four children who are in an interconnecting quadrouple room, next door to the double and with a bathroom at the rear.

  • Double & Twin Tents

Main Camp has a variety of double or twin tents which attach to an open-air bathroom, so you can enjoy showering under the stars. Spacious verandas and day beds to enjoy the relaxing moments.

The Mess Tent

The Mess tent is the central area with a dining room inside, and sitting area with books and games, a display cupboard full of bones, and skulls and bits of ancient pottery found on our walks.

Our large deck gives plenty of space for group seating and drinks around a fire in the evening.

This communal space provides a variety of dining locations with breakfast outside on the deck to enjoy the warmth of the morning and dinner inside illuminated by an orange glow from candlelight.

A Camp for Good Company

Main Camp is the one place at Laikipia Wilderness that isn't booked out to a single group, and that is exactly its charm. Guests arrive as strangers and often leave as friends, having swapped the day's sightings over sundowners and pieced together the story of a leopard track around the dinner table. For solo travellers, couples and anyone who enjoys meeting kindred spirits on safari, it offers the warmth of a shared camp without losing the intimacy of a small, family-run operation. Evenings are sociable but never crowded, and there is always a quiet corner or a riverside chair for anyone who wants time to themselves.
